The Fjords

The Sognefjord consists of the main fjord - Norway's longest and deepest fjord - and several branches, such as the Aurlandsfjord, the Naeroyfjord (on the World Heritage list), the Fjaerlandsfjord & the Lusterfjord. The famous Flam Railway takes you down to the Aurlandsfjord & the village of Flam from the Myrdal mountain station through the spectacular Flam valley. The Flam Railway is a side line of the main Bergen train line between Oslo and Bergen.

The Naeroyfjord - a UNESCO World Heritage site - is the most narrow and dramatic of the fjord branches of the main Sognefjord, surrounded by steep mountain sides. The tiny fjord village of Gudvangen is located at the inner end of the fjord, leading the way to the breathtaking Stalheim canyon with the steep Stalheimskleiven hairpin road

The Geirangerfjord - a UNESCO World Heritage site - carves its way from the coast & the Alesund coastal town to the fjord village of Geiranger, with spectacular waterfalls & tiny mountain farms clinging to the mountain sides. The famous "Golden Route" mountain road with the breathtaking Trollstigen hairpin road offers marvelous views of the Geirangerfjord
